2017 Annual Meeting Report

New Board Members Elected and Young Adult of the Year Awarded at 2017 Annual Meeting and Barbecue.

The Church Club's Annual Meeting and Barbecue took place on Wednesday, June 14, at Church of the Transfiguration with more than 60 members and guests in attendance.

President Nancy Fisher called the meeting to order and Transfiguration's new Rector, Father John David van Dooren offered an opening prayer.

The business meeting included the election of six new members to the Board of Trustees. New Trustees are: Donna Ashley, Prof. Nicholas Birns, Willem Brans, Gregory Stoskopf, Christopher Stromee, and Dr. Edward Valentine.

New officers were also elected, as follows: Dr. Scott Evenbeck, President; Muriel Kneeshaw and Christopher Stromee, Vice Presidents; and Alissa Abrams, Secretary. Stephen Storen remains as the Church Club’s Treasurer.

Following official business, Bishop Suffragan Allen Shin was on hand to present the Church Club's Fourth Annual Young Adult of the Year Service Recognition Award to Christopher Wilson, a member of St. Mary's Church in Mohegan Lake, New York.

Wilson was selected for his work raising funds and writing grants to rebuild, furnish, and provide books and supplies to Hatsavan School in Armenia where he originally worked as a Peace Corps volunteer, and has since, continued a commitment to supporting the school.

The Church Club is also pleased to recognize the five other outstanding Young Adult of the Year nominees for 2017:

  • Elizabeth Boe - Church of the Heavenly Rest, for lay leadership in helping her parish develop into a more global church, coordinating overseas pilgrimages and other parish ministries.
  • Daniel Fowler-Saint Thomas Church, for service as a leader with the Saint Thomas Young Adult Group.
  • Bailey Joyce-St. Alban's, Staten Island, for service with youth in her parish in with the Diocesan Summer Youth Conference.
  • Jamieson Smith-Saint Peter's, Medford, NJ, for volunteer service within his parish and with New Jersey Citizen Action Education Fund and advocating for healthcare for all.
  • Hallie Stotler-St. Michael's Church, for service working with St. Michael's Young Adults.
