The Church Club of New York Annual Bishop’s Forums

The Annual Bishop’s Forum is an opportunity for a prominent bishop of the church to address members, friends, and guests of the Church Club on matters pertinent to the affairs and concerns of the Episcopal Church nationally and internationally, as well as matters of concern to local dioceses.

November 13, 2018:  Bishop’s Forum at the Church of St. John’s in the Village

The Rt. Rev. Andrew Dietsche, Bishop of New York discussed some of the highlights of the Episcopal Church’s General Convention including the vote to bring the Episcopal Church of Cuba back into the Episcopal Church in the U.S.  The Evening began with choral Evensong followed by the Bishop’s remarks.  The Church Club also awarded it’s 5th Annual Young Adult of the Year Service Recognition Award to Merrick Williams of the Long Island Diocese for his work with the Mary Brennan Interfaith Nutrition Network.  Several staff members of the Cathedral of the Incarnation, including Dean Michael Sniffen, were on hand to see Merrick receive his award.

February 7, 2018: Annual Bishop’s Forum at Grace Church Brooklyn Heights

The Rt. Rev. Lawrence C. Provenzano, Bishop of the Long Island Diocese provided an overview of his approach to overseeing the Diocese.  Bishop Provenzano also remarked on ways the Church can reach out to and serve parishioners and people in local communities in the modern age of digital communications and social media.  The Evening began with choral Evensong and concluded with a reception for members and guests.

November 9, 2016: Annual Bishop’s Forum at Church of the Holy Trinity

Following a service of Evening Prayer, The Rt. Rev. Mary D. Glasspool, Assistant Bishop in the New York Diocese, addressed members and guests.  With the U.S. Presidential Election having been the day before, members from all across the political spectrum expressed their thoughts and concerns.  Bishop Glasspool reminded everyone that throughout history, in times of controversies and conflicts, we all look to the same God – the true “Commander in Chief”.  Following Bishop Glasspool’s remarks, attendees enjoyed a reception of light hors d’ oeuvres and beverages.

October 28, 2015: Annual Bishop’s Forum at All Saints Church

The Rt. Rev. Andrew Dietsche, Bishop of New York, enjoyed the reception following a choral Evensong at All Saints Church on East 60th Street.  During the Forum, the Bishop focused his remarks on important issues discussed and resolutions made at the recent General Convention of The Episcopal Church, held in in Salt Lake City, including the election of the new Presiding Bishop.

November 18, 2014: Annual Bishop’s Forum at The Church of Saint Mary the Virgin

Following Evening Prayer and a tour of the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin in Times Square, attendees of the Church Club’s Annual Bishop’s Forum listened with great intent to The Rt. Rev. Allen K. Shin, Bishop Suffragan of New York, discuss Rowan Williams’ recently published book on the four essential components of Christian life entitled Being Christian: Baptism, Bible, Eucharist, Prayer.

November 6, 2013: Annual Bishop’s Forum at St. James’ Church

Attendees of the Church Club’s Annual Bishop’s Forum with The Rt. Rev. Laura J. Ahrens, Bishop Suffragan, The Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut, enjoyed the reception in Sunderland Hall at St. James’ Church. Preceding the Bishop’s remarks, Rector The Rev. Brenda G. Husson welcomed guests and conducted a tour of the Church, including the magnificent Ralph Adams Cram-designed Reredos.

November 27, 2012: Annual Bishop’s Forum at Saint Thomas Church

At the 2012 Annual Bishop’s Forum, The Rt. Rev. Andrew Dietsche spoke in Saint Thomas Church’s Andrew Hall about last summer’s General Convention, his plans for the Diocese after his installation on February 2, and his interest in young adult ministry.

November 30, 2011: Annual Bishop’s Forum at Saint Thomas Church

At the Church Club’s Annual Bishop’s Forum, held at Saint Thomas Church, Bishop Sisk introduced The Rt. Rev. Andrew Dietsche (left), newly elected Bishop Coadjutor of the Diocese of New York. The bishops spoke of their plans for the Diocese as Bishop Sisk retires and Bishop Dietsche takes over in February 2013.
